It's a funny thing an archive. You have good photographs of bad shows, and bad photographs of good shows, and video of all formats and standards, and of course you wish you'd kept better records, but on the other hand theatre isn't about keeping records. Because theatre is about the moment isn't it? It's written in the wind. And after- it is gone. Perhaps a ticket is the only record, or a programme, or maybe even a record. Or perhaps the puppets themselves are the record, who are packed limply into boxes in a barn somewhere north of London. Or the costumes, or the shoes.
When they're "alive", Blind Summit's puppets are antisocial, uninhibited, always experimental, and sometimes just plain bad. They aim to displease. They don't win awards, they don't make friends, they aren't nice. How do you capture that?
But they've been around for a while and they're still going so you have to admire their tenacity don't you?
