"The boy" was originally made for Mr China's Son. He was He Liyi imagined as a baby. Carolyn Chao saw the show at the Pleasance Theatre, London in 2002. She remembered him and in 2005 she contacted us to ask if she could recast him as "Sorrow", Madam Butterfly's son, for a production she was working on with her husband Anthony Minghella. We were so ready for this, and so was the boy.
